The exterior remodel of this historic property involved a planning application for a new outdoor cafe. In addition, the existing mezzanine functions, which had no natural light, were opened up. Altogether a much more updated approach.
The entry facade of the hotel project received all new Aluminum fenestration. We were able to reduce the sill height down to approximately 16”, for that coveted indoor, outdoor feel. The retractable canopy housings were built into the facade configuration.
This first floor axe of the lobby level shows the location of the restaurant and bar on the south west corner of the property. Previously this restaurant was walled off from the lobby. now the bar functioned as the activity generator for the entire space. The increased glazing in the facade further adding to the feeling of openness, and connection to the city beyond.
The double volume lobby interior was maintained, but the reception desk was relocated to ‘nest’ within one of the enclosing walls. This allowed for discreet access to a general managers office over, an administration office and luggage rm behind. An oval window was placed above the portal surround of the reception desk for views into the lobby.
The mezzanine axonometric houses the breakfast buffet. The previous layout for this level was a series of internalized meeting rooms, and conference fascinates. By removing the divisions, replacing the divisions with glazed walls, and adding the necessary Back of house functions (pantries), this level was reinvented. The new fenestration adds to the feeling of openness.
A detail of the revit construction for an upholstered banquet and panelling. The metal grillage over provided a sense of enclosure to the diners, and a sense of separation for the bar beyond.
The side driveway approach maximizes the front garden, and takes into consideration all the existing trees. The side kitchen porch looks out onto a kitchen garden.
The south facing living rooms, covered porch, and bedrooms in the main house look out onto a pool and manicured ‘courtyard garden’. The Cabana has south lites to filter all day sunlight into the living spaces.
The south and west facing bedroom wing has sun filtering pergolas and canopies for added appeal. The Cabana outdoor porch serves as the main entry point from across the courtyard garden
The first floor plan, roughly divides the plan into 2 components. Family quarters, and the more formal Dining room and Great Room wing.
The orthographic model of the House in Revit. The property is on a corner, which allows for a "motor court". The guiding design style was modern farmhouse.
In this plan callout, the kitchen is clearly visible, the equipment wall of ovens and refrigerators, are close to the kitchen entry from the garage. The range with its downdraft convection floats in front of the "porch sheltered windows" to the exterior.
